London graduate Fashion week is one of the world’s most important sources of new talents for the global design industry. Graduate Fashion Week is been celebrated for the past 25 years and is a crucial part of the dynamic – fuelling innovation in all parts of the fashion business. London Graduate Fashion week showcases the best collections of the design graduates from in and around the design universities in the Great Britain.
Venuka Wickramarachchi a fashion design student of Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology, who was transferred to complete his final year of the degree at the University of Northampton, is selected to showcase his collection at the London Graduate fashion week this year.
University of Northampton thrives on encouraging their students to develop confident and individual approaches to the design development process. The students are constantly challenged to go beyond the boundaries of conventional approaches to fashion, fashion marketing, surface design, printed textiles, footwear and accessories. The University of Northampton is committed to ensuring that their students gain a global understanding of the market place that they will enter.
The unique programme offer of LIFT that enables students to complete two years of their degree studies in Sri Lanka and transfer to the University of Northampton enables students to complete a UK degree in a more flexible cost effective manner without loosing any opportunities of studying all three years abroad. This is an option open to our very own Sri Lankan students while LIFT also offers the three year full time degree from Paris right here in Sri Lanka. The option of choosing the study destination is in each individual’s hands. With this variety of study offers from the fashion capitols LIFT stands as the leading educator in fashion design who offers choices for its students.
Speaking to Venuka who was on the process of the preparations for the Graduate Fashion Week he said,
“It was an amazing experience I’ve ever had in my life. The exposure I gained to my carrier life as well as to my ordinary life is a huge strength which I cannot explain. From the first day at university, I had two main goals to achieve; to complete my degree with a higher grade and to be select for the Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) in London. After lots of hard work of almost nine months, today I have acquired through my dreams successfully.
Graduate Fashion Week is once in a life time experience which every graduating fashion designer can obtain, and this time I am the only Asian who is participating for the GFW representing The University of Northampton. As a Sri Lankan fashion designer this is a wonderful opportunity to make my country in a significant place in the world fashion industry”
